September is officially National Chicken Month. When I think of chicken a couple of words come to mind: bland, boring, dry, unoriginal. This month we're going to throw those words out and introduce you to the wonderful culinary treat that chicken can be using both classic techniques and recipes, and tapping into global flavors and influences. Chicken is a more affordable meat, but especially this month when farmers and grocery stores team up to offer you lower prices on this weeknight staple. Keep an eye out for specials in your local market. I do have to make a plug, however, for organic, natural, free-range chickens and this Bon Appetit article teaches you how to buy one.
Here's a little something extra to get you in the chicken mood. A classic song that my mom used to sing to me all the time. This month on Diane Can Cook, ain't nobody here but us chickens*.
*Disclaimer: my love of all foods will probably ensure that more foods than just chicken will seep into the posts this month, but chicken will definitely be the focus!

Diane Can Still Cook!
Yes, Diane Can Still Cook! After months on sabbatical I have returned to share my views about tasty food finds, trends, and recipes with my trusty editor Laura Cañate close behind.
Over the past eight months I have tasted some amazing food, some of it expected and others blindsided me completely! Not sharing these gastronomical highs would be selfish and food is all about sharing, so I'm back with a new and improved look ready to take you on a journey of constant flavor discovery and ingredient innovation...
- Korean bbq from a gourmet lunch truck
- Pizza from a Food Network Iron Chef
- Mexican lobster tacos
- The Best Thing I Ever Ate
- The perfect backyard burger recipe?
Who's hungry?!
